Introduction to Responsive Classroom and Ruler
The Responsive Classroom approach is a way of teaching that fosters safe, challenging and joyful schools. Developed by teachers, this approach consists of practical strategies for combining social and academic learning throughout the day. Responsive Classroom practices provide an approach to classroom and school-wide management that emphasizes the development of children’s responsible independence. These practices also build friendly, supportive communities within the classroom and school.
RULER is a systemic approach to SEL developed at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. RULER aims to teach the principles of emotional intelligence to students in grades preK to 12.
RULER is an acronym for the five skills of emotional intelligence.
